Helbiz is an application designed to solve the problem of transport in large urban agglomerations by renting scooters. Here’s how it works.

A scooter, electric or not, is one of the most popular modes of transport these days, especially in big cities where you need to move quickly but without bulky vehicles. However, you don’t necessarily have to buy a scooter: the rental is very convenient, especially when the scooter is only needed for a certain period of time. And the Helbiz app is the perfect scooter rental tool.

How to register with Helbiz

First of all, it’s good to know that there is an app for using Helbiz that you can install on your smartphone, be it Android or iOS. To use it, you must register by creating your own account, either via your Facebook, Google or Apple profile, or by entering your e-mail address. After completing the registration, you will receive a code on your mobile phone that will be used to confirm your registration. You will then need to provide a copy of your ID and of course your chosen payment method.

How Helbiz

works

So how does Helbiz work for the sharing service? The app uses your smartphone’s gps to find out which available vehicles are nearby so you can reach them, but it can also follow a route to get there. Once you have found the vehicle you wish to rent, simply click on “Start Driving” and scan the relevant QR code with your phone’s camera. After that, you can use the scooter as long as necessary. To stop the scooter, click on “End Ride” and take a picture of the parked vehicle. You don’t have to look for a parking station: Helbiz only requires you to park your scooter responsibly on the sidewalk.

How to use Helbiz

Helbiz is only available in some Italian cities for the time being: you can find out which cities these are by checking the map inside the app, which will also indicate within what radius you can move the scooter. There are actually three different types of zones. Green zones are Helbiz zones where vehicles can be used and parked. It is forbidden to move in the red zones. If you enter these zones, your vehicle will be automatically blocked. In addition, driving outside the green zone means you will have to pay for retrieval of the vehicle. If Helbiz detects red zones in green areas, it means that e-mobility is not allowed in these areas. The yellow zones, also inside green areas, are pedestrian zones or zones with restricted mobility with a speed limit of 6 km / h.

How Much is Helbiz

The great thing about Helbiz is that it is quite affordable and accessible to everyone. In Helbiz, the scooter has a fixed cost that is charged to unlock the vehicle and start driving. Additionally, there is a charge per minute of connection which may vary depending on the city you are in. You can pay by credit card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Tinaba or Alipay. It is also possible to top up your account using a special Helbiz Wallet, which is used to pay for rent. Users of this service can also take advantage of the Helbiz Unlimited subscription: by paying 29.99 euros per month, you can enjoy an unlimited number of journeys, up to a maximum of 30 minutes a day.
