When learning Norwegian, it is worth using proven learning methods. Here are some effective ways. A good Norwegian course, a textbook or a teacher are not everything. Success depends on how much time you spend on self-study at home.

Good notes
When entering the course, it is worth having a nice notebook, a good pen and colored markers or markers to highlight the most important information. During the lesson, let’s note the most important things that the teacher talks about – at home, these notes will be invaluable. It’s much better to learn from clear notes, so let’s write clearly, in capital letters, leaving larger spaces so that we can easily find the information we need.

Flashcards
Flashcards are small cards with a word, phrase or sentence written in Polish on one side, and the same in Norwegian on the other. By learning with flashcards, we can effectively check ourselves. This is a great way to use your time in public transport. After all, long journeys can be useful! The best flashcards are of course home-made, but you can also buy ready-made sets, some even with vocabulary CDs.

Listening
As you know, Norwegian has two official versions: bokmål and nynorsk and many dialects. That is why it is so important to get familiar with the Norwegian pronunciation, even if we do not understand everything yet. From the very beginning of learning, let’s listen to Norwegian radio for 20 minutes a day (http://radio.nrk.no/), watch Norwegian movies and listen to Norwegian songs. Everyone will find something for themselves on the Internet, and the results won’t take long!

Post-it
An old and proven method is to stick yellow post-it notes on your apartment. Stick a piece of paper with the words et kjøleskap on the fridge, and on the window et vindu, and after some time the words will enter your head by themselves 🙂 You can also stick larger pages (e.g. with a list of exceptions, conjugation of verbs or adjectives etc.) in visible places, the point is to look at them as often as possible, apparently the cards on the toilet door work best…;)

Rewriting and letters
Many people rewrite all readings from the textbook, write one difficult word dozens or hundreds of times to finally remember the spelling. You can also create your own word lists, e.g. a separate list of verbs, adjectives or nouns in three types. On one side of the page we write words in Polish, on the other in Norwegian, so that you can “ask” yourself. In short, the more time you spend with certain words or phrases, the greater the chance of remembering them.

Norwegian websites
When learning various thematic words, it is worth visiting Norwegian websites, for example www.ikea.no, where we can check kitchen words, children’s toys, furniture and more. Of course, we recommend various interesting links to learn Norwegian that you will find on the Internet. We devoted the entire blog entry to them: http://www.zoozanko.pl/nauka-norweskiego-w-internet/. Read on!
