Extroverted-dog in depressed mood often:

– accosts the caregiver, forces attention, walk and other common activities,

– excessively vocalizes: bark, bark, howl or growl,

– reacts more intensively to various stimuli,

– persistently pulls the leash and forces him to approach whatever interested him,

– destroys objects and furniture, makes a mess in the apartment,

– exhibits obsessive-compulsive behavior – chasing his own tail, running around or running back and forth along the property’s fence.

Importantly, our dog may start behaving differently not only because of his depressed mood. Any significant change in his behavior, once we catch it, should be discussed with a behaviorist who will be able to solve all dog problems at their source.

Owner – support, security and driving force

No chandra lasts forever – we can transfer this rule from our world to the dog’s yard. A sad dog is always a sad owner, but we should not follow our pets when they are depressed. If we react quickly enough, we can avoid more serious emotional problems in a dog, such as canine depression (professionally called dysphoria). Remember that for our pets we are partners and guides – we set rules, lead them through the world, meet their needs and create a safe living environment for them. We also initiate activities that develop the dog’s skills and allow the proper use of energy. You will find some ideas for everyday fun at home in our material “7 super ideas for playing with your dog at home”!

So we can effectively improve our dogs’ mood! How? Here are some tips

1. Let’s provide the dog with a sense of security, learn about the situations that stress him and let him overcome them effectively – let’s pass other dogs on walks from a distance, let’s tame the pet with noise.

2. follow clear and predictable rules – consistently prohibit climbing on furniture, introduce sequences of commands before the walk.

3. Satisfy the dog’s physical and social needs – let’s pet it and play with it, provide a variety of games (use jerks, balls, lines), let’s take the pooch for long walks so that he can run out and explore the area.

Calm and without problems – formula for dog-happiness

We already know it’s good to watch a dog’s mood. Such observation is one of the most important components of a behaviorist’s work. Its tasks include not only interpreting the dog’s behavior, but also its emotions. The importance of this task is most easily made aware of the relationship between the dog’s mood and problematic behavior. Often, despite our sincere intentions, we will not be able to deal with the dog’s inappropriate behavior here and now, reacting only to their symptoms and not referring to the source of the problem. This is definitely a job for a specialist.

Remember, however, about the nature of emotions – some situations do not necessarily announce the worst and bring the specter of dog depression over our heads. It all depends on how you feel. Loud barking from other dogs during walks can be associated with a single canine emotion that will soon be forgotten or replaced by another. Similarly, in a good mood we wave our hand at failure, in a bad mood we get irritated for any reason. It is important to have a state of equilibrium in view and to know how to achieve it.

Optimal well-being in humans and animals is synonymous with happiness! And a happy dog is a dog with no problems – less prone to inappropriate behavior.
