World-famous specialists regularly come to Poland to show news from the world of dog hairdressing on their pets with different types of hair. It is very valuable if your dog’s groomer participates in this type of training.

Groomer like dog-psychologist

Every groomer should know a little bit about dog psychology. The ideal situation is if the groomer is also a behaviorist, dog trainer or at least interested in the subject. These additional qualifications will help to correctly read the signals and minimize canine stress during the visit. This is especially important when working with fearful dogs and dogs showing aggressive behavior. In addition, it will be easier for such a person to convey to the guardian the knowledge of how to deal with the dog, how to get him used to grooming and how to tame anxiety when the pet is afraid, for example, of clipping claws or bathing.

In every good grooming salon, introductory visits are organized, during which you can meet the groomer, talk to him, ask for advice on the care of your dog. These visits are important for both puppies and adult dogs. It is very valuable if the groomer finds time for you to say hello to your dog, give him a delicious treat, dispel your doubts about the first visit. The purpose of the introductory visit is to build positive associations with the grooming salon in the dog. This is a great investment for the stress-free experience of later visits to the dog’s spa.

Prices of grooming-services and dates

A good, self-respecting groomer is not cheap. Specialized training seminars, professional equipment and cosmetics cost a lot. Unfortunately, this must be reflected in the price of the service. When choosing a groomer, do not be tempted by a low price, as it will usually be behind lower quality.

In good, respected grooming salons, you sometimes have to wait a long time for an appointment. This is an unquestionable sign that the people working there are good at what they do, and the dog handlers appreciate their talent and professionalism.

This is okay-behavior!

When choosing a groomer, don’t get discouraged if you are asked to wait for your dog in the waiting room or to pick him up at the appointed time. It is perfectly normal for the dog handlers to not allow the guardian to remain with the dog during the shearing. Its purpose is to provide the dog with maximum comfort and safety. However, if you feel more confident without leaving the lounge, choose one with a waiting area.

Pay attention to whether the grooming salon is equipped with monitoring. This is a clear sign that the groomer in question has nothing to hide and that your pet will be treated with respect.

It is absolutely obvious that you do NOT use pharmacological agents in professional, self-respecting and animal-loving grooming salons.

Check the cleanliness of the grooming salon!

Choose a salon where employees keep the workplace clean, for example, regularly cleaning the floor and sterilizing the equipment.

Don’t be afraid to ask your future groomer about disinfecting equipment. In good, self-respecting salons, scissors, combs, brushes, blades and the grooming table are disinfected after each dog client. Ask if the salon is equipped with a sterilizer for tools. The ideal situation is when, apart from such a device, also a UV germicidal lamp, which, when the staff is absent, guarantees the destruction of all microorganisms: fungi, viruses and bacteria.

Ask about the grooming equipment used by dog hairdressers in a given salon. Professional bathtubs and electric tables, high-power dryers-blowers, high-quality razors, brushes and scissors – all this makes the visit to the salon much more comfortable, less stressful, safer and shorter for the dog.

Ask the groomer what cosmetics he uses for bathing and grooming his clients. Good, professional cosmetics is half the battle. Preparations of reputable companies in combination with the groomer’s experience will guarantee that your pet’s coat will be cleansed, and at the same time nourished, moisturized and polished. They will also prevent skin irritation and allergies.

Also remember that not all salons accept large breed dogs. When making an appointment, specify the size, weight, breed or type of breed your dog is. This will help the groomer plan the length of the visit.

I hope my advice will help you choose a professional grooming salon for your dog!
