Saving passwords on computers and smartphones is quite common, so here’s how to recover our credentials on Windows, iOS and Android

Login passwords can be reset on any device and operating system. This is good news if you often forget your credentials to unlock your computer or smartphone screen. Here’s how to do it depending on your device.

Let’s start with a Windows computer. First, let’s say on computers, an Access PIN isn’t really a way to protect your files. This is just a way to deter hackers. Hard disk encryption is more reliable for truly securing each document. First of all, it must be said that there are basically two solutions available to us in Windows to allow us to use our computer if we have forgotten our initial password. One is to create a password reset disk and the other is to reset our Microsoft account password.

If we have forgotten the password to login to our Microsoft account, the first thing to do is go to the control panel and then to the Account section. After entering the Account page, we must click on “Create a password recovery disk”. At this point, we will be redirected to the wizard. It is important to insert the USB key or CD before proceeding. After completing this process, we will have a restore point that we can use should we forget the password again in the future. It’s even easier to reset your Microsoft account password. It is important that we have associated a data recovery email or phone number with our profile. All you have to do is click on the “forgot password” option to receive a temporary access code via e-mail or SMS.

MacOS

If we have forgotten our Apple account password, we can simply go to iCloud and recover or reset our password via email or phone number. Mac computers also have a password recovery tool available in Recovery Mode. You will need to restart your Mac by clicking the Apple menu and then selecting Restart. At this point, we hold down the Command + R keys as the computer boots up and enter recovery mode. After doing these steps, go to the terminal and type resetpassword, and then hit enter.

Android

If you have a phone running Android 4.4 KitKat or lower, it’s easy to reset a forgotten password. On the fifth incorrect attempt, a message will appear asking if you have forgotten your password. If we answer yes, we will be redirected to a new login page where we just need to enter the access code to our Google account to get the phone back. If you have a smartphone with Android Lollipop or later, the forget password option is not available. As of this operating system, Google doesn’t allow you to easily recover your PIN or unlock code. In this case, to regain possession of the phone, we will have to perform a reset. It is a very secure system, but it will cost us all of our data stored on our smartphone. If you were smart enough to do regular backups, however, you won’t have to worry about this possibility.

iPhone and iPad

On iPhone and iPad, as on Android, there is no way to recover the unlock password without deleting the data on the device. If you’ve never backed up, doing this could mean you lose every file on your iPhone, iPad, or even iPod Touch. There are three ways to delete any data on iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch: use iCloud, iTunes, or recovery mode.
