Dr Katarzyna Cheba, University of Business in Gorzów: – The question arises whether the salary expectations of first-year students at the level of approx. net and slightly lower expectations of students in subsequent years – are they really exorbitant? Shouldn’t continuing education at the university level give rise to higher expectations as to the first salary? According to the Campus 2011 report for the Pracuj.pl website (Q1 2011), the average monthly salary that students in general (not only from economic universities) would like to receive in their first job is approximately PLN 600 lower than average net salary according to GUS in April 2012.

The question of indicating the fields of study that will allow graduates to obtain the desired earnings needs to be resolved. According to the available analyzes, employers are willing to pay more to graduates of technical universities. It seems obvious. On the other hand, the demand for university graduates with technical faculties is not high, especially in smaller urban centers.

The job vacancies published on various websites are mainly offers for sellers – sales representatives, scientists, representatives, sales coordinators, sales managers, etc. There are definitely more of these job offers.

On the other hand, employers feel the shortage of qualified employees, the so-called “Growing shortage of qualifications”, exacerbating the tendency of lack of adequate staff, both quantitatively and qualitatively, in relation to specific skills and qualifications.

It is also assumed that only half of the basic work will be able to be performed by employees with the lowest education as a result of increased requirements. Holding a university diploma supported by appropriate skills and qualifications desired by employers will therefore be an undisputed advantage.
