Kena officially joins TIM’s “stable”. Those who are already customers will not notice the change; those looking to go to Kenya will get a small discount

Kena Mobile is an Italian virtual operator that has been present in the telephone industry for several years. Until October 31, it belonged to the Nòverca group, but with the end of the merger of the brand with Telecom, Kena also officially became part of the “stable” of the former state monopoly.

Kena Mobile has thus officially become a TIM brand and for all intentions and purposes the second mobile operator of the former state monopoly. The collaboration between TIM and Kena Mobile is by no means new: since 2017, a virtual operator has been using the TIM network to offer its users its low-cost services. So it has already distinguished itself before with good signal coverage and stability, but compared to a well-known telephone operator, it has cheaper rates. What consequences will the official entry into TIM have for users?

Kena Mobile and TIM: Features of the Merger

Kena Mobile is a virtual operator, i.e. a company that provides mobile services without having the necessary infrastructure or licenses for frequencies, which are the elements necessary to provide these services. In fact, in order to acquire customers, Kena, like other virtual telephone operators, must rely on those who have the appropriate infrastructure.

The news of the merger dates back to the beginning of the summer season, when the TIM Group announced the start of the project to shareholders: in order to simplify the company’s structure as well as internal processes, the telephone operator decided to include Ken Mobile. As of October 31, all pages on the website no longer refer to Nòverca but to TIM, including tariff transparency, privacy and tariff offer documents.

What are the consequences for customers?

A page informing about activation, as well as giving various details about the operation, reassures users: the Assistance number remains unchanged. Number 181 remains the contact where you can dispel doubts and get answers about your plan or subscription, but also information about promotions, etc. Customers can contact this number free of charge, all others pay according to the tariff plan. To contact a Customer Service Center from abroad, please call +393505999181.

The message also states that all of Kena Mobile’s Economic and Contractual Terms and Conditions remain unchanged. Meanwhile, the sale of Kena Casa’s services has been suspended since November. The mobile offerings have changed slightly: previously, the customer had to pay € 5 for a rechargeable SIM card, in addition to the activation and management fee for the selected plan. Now these five euros are abolished: to activate the plan, it is enough to make a top-up that covers the cost of the first month of the offer. In conclusion, it remains to be seen whether this strategic move could change the mobile landscape in Italy, given that competition in this field is currently intense.
