How to write a job summary to interest the employer

You already know what career goals are. You know that a modern CV should contain them. However, how do you write a summary that will really impress the employer?

Below are some tips that will make your CV stand out from other candidates.

Universal career goals. How to describe career goals in your CV to attract the employer?

  1. Adapt your career summary to match your job offer. Include those experiences, achievements, and skills in your resume that relate to the most important requirements in your ad. This way you will show that you are not sending your CV en masse and that you really care about the position (see our downloadable CV template).
  2. Be specific, avoid the generalities that any candidate can enter (e.g. I am hard-working) . Use numbers, percentages of the names of the companies you have worked for. This will make you more credible to the employer.
  3. Show the employer that your professional goal coincides with the company’s goals and how you will make them achieve it together.
  4. Do not provide data that may be the trade secret of your previous or current employer.
  5. Use boldface for the most important information, achievements or company names. This way you will catch the reader’s eye.
  6. In your career summary, DO NOT include famous quotes or your motto.
  7. Be careful of typos, spelling or stylistic errors. Don’t use long, long, complex and complicated sentences.

Compare good and bad example of a professional summary (template):

Why is the first candidate is more likely to be invited for an interview?

Reason 1. The first candidate wrote how many years of experience she has and gave examples of company names, which she worked. This makes it more credible for the employer who can quickly check this information.

Reason 2. The candidate described her most important achievement and thus showed the employer, that he shows the initiative and can help grow his business.

Reason 3. The first candidate avoided a general description of her duties that any accountant could enter. In this way, she distinguished herself from other people.

Important: If in the career goals section you mention Polish companies where you worked, horses finally explain what they do and what is their position on the market – e.g. PZU (Poland’s largest insurer) . A foreign employer may not know Polish realities at all, so make sure that he does not have to guess anything.
