Our neighbors will gladly accept Polish youth to learn their profession. Anyone who decides will get between 200 and 800 euros every month. On May 10, they organize an information meeting for those interested.

From 10.00 to 13.00 at the Vocational Training Center at the Chamber of Crafts in Frankfurt (Spiekerstrasse 11, near the railway station), the organizers will be waiting for Polish students (graduates of high schools and technical schools) who will present an offer of education in 93 competitions in the so-called dual education system (the student works and learns at the same time). To enroll in a vocational school, you first need to find an employer (the Chamber helps you with this) who will accept a student for the so-called Ausbildung. In practice, a Pole spends two thirds of his time in a given company, and the rest is spent on learning theory.

Aleksandra Ziomko-Żmuda, a Pole working in the Chamber of Crafts in Frankfurt, who organizes this meeting, says that the interest in science in Germany is great, but for many, the German language turns out to be an insurmountable barrier. – Who wants to study across the Oder, must be able to learn it at B1 level (ability to communicate in speech and writing – editor’s note), because all the classes in which Poles participate are in German. In addition, the language is often professional, which makes the task even more difficult, ‘he says. He admits that for this reason many people quit while studying. When in 2011 the Germans opened their labor market to foreigners, 16 Poles began their apprenticeship in Frankfurt, but no school had finished. In the next two years, eight people were admitted and all of them are still learning. It is worth persevering, because Germany offers very good conditions. – Learning lasts from 3 to 3.5 years, you get a salary every month – emphasizes A. Ziomko-Żmuda.

He says that in the first year of study it is between 200 and 600 euros per hand, depending on the industry. For example, a Pole who learns to be a bricklayer receives the maximum salary, as do most students of other construction professions. Like a full-time employee, they also have the right to holiday and are insured. With each year of study, the salary grows.
Those who study, for example, to be hairdressers, earn the worst. They get 190 euros a month. But they can also get more, because there are programs that subsidize education in some professions. One of them is Mobi Pro EU.

– We have a student from Słubice, who is training to be a specialist in the telecommunications industry and uses this program, thanks to which he receives EUR 818 every month – says an employee of the Frankfurt Chamber. She also tells us in which professions Germany is most likely to educate foreigners. It is the automotive industry (painters, mechatronics), cosmetics and hairdressing, confectionery industry (bakers, sellers), office professions. There is also a great demand for optometrists, dental technicians (in these two cases you must have a high school diploma), plumbers and electricians.

The advantage is that in Germany there is no age barrier, as in our country. – In Polish crafts, the offer is addressed only to students up to 18 years of age, in Germany, education can be undertaken by a much older person – says A. Ziomko-Żmuda. – We had a 36-year-old student who wanted to be a hairdresser – she recalls and adds that the company that gives the job decides about accepting a person for vocational training. It is often the case that before signing the contract, he admits the candidate for a week’s internship to assess the student’s abilities.

All this will be discussed at the meeting on Saturday, May 10th. There will also be an opportunity to obtain information (in Polish) about the possibilities of German craftsmanship in the 2014/2015 school year, how to prepare application documents, and obtain funding from EU funds. More information in Polish is available at www.hwk-ff.de.
