Meditation on the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity, Year B1

TROJCA_SW_.jpg

The eleven disciples went up to the mountain in Galilee, where Jesus had instructed them. And when they saw him, they worshiped him. Some, however, doubted. Then Jesus approached them and spoke these words: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you all the days, until the end of the world “(Mt 28: 16-20).

It was in Galilee that Jesus began his public ministry and here, after his resurrection, he gathered his disciples and sent them on missions. Here, on the border between Holy Judah and the land of the Gentiles, a new place of adoration and mission was born. That the Master’s work would continue and “the people who sat in darkness will see a great light, and to the inhabitants of the shadowy land of death a light may appear” (Mt 4).

Jesus comes up and speaks also, and perhaps especially to doubters. My authority is … Go … teach by baptizing … teach to observe … I am with you …

Our Galilee and our doubts. We don’t have to make pilgrimages, look for privileged places of worship. At every frontier – “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday and today, the same forever” (Heb 13), and our doubts are for Him the apparently acceptable part of our faith, our path. They do not seem to be an obstacle to the harvest workers, to preach the Good News, to be baptized in the name of the Trinity, to teach us to observe what we are commanded to do.

Baptism in the name of the Trinity. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. As someone said, knowing the Trinity in unity is the fruit and goal of the Christian life – theologians try to organize it, mystics try to sing it out, artists express its beauty, and every believer lives it. Following Benedict XVI, perhaps it is worth paying attention “not so much to the mystery, but to the reality of love, which is contained in this first and most important mystery of our faith. Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one because they are love, and love is the absolute animating force, the unity created by love is more unity than some purely physical unity. The Father gives everything to the Son, the Son receives everything from the Father amid gratitude, and the Holy Spirit is like the fruit of this mutual love of the Father and the Son.

And again Benedict XVI – “Only love makes us happy, because we live to love and be loved. This is what speaks most strongly for the fact that man was created in the image of the Holy Trinity. ”

Our God reveals Himself as a God of love and relationships, in which there is room for us. Only immersed in Him will we learn to love Him, our neighbors, and ourselves. It is not ideals or theories that educate and sanctify us. It is God in action – the Creator and merciful Father, the only-begotten Son, the eternal Wisdom incarnate, the One Who died and rose for us, and the Holy Spirit who guides the universe and history to its final fulfillment.
