They don’t wait for a miracle, they don’t flee to Great Britain. They want to have the title of technician, even though some are already masters and passed their high school diploma many years ago.

On Tuesday, January 15, professional examinations began in the winter session. In our region, 1.5 thousand people pass them. They want to obtain the title of technician, even though they have already passed the high school diploma, sometimes studies. Why?

One of the candidates is Wiesława Dziewięcka from the post-secondary school Awans in Kielce. Her daughter is a dentist. Mrs. Wiesława has an economic education. She could easily wait for retirement.
– I still have some work to do, I want to have additional qualifications. I’m going to help my daughter, that’s why I decided to go to post-secondary school – she says. He takes an exam in the profession of a dental technician. – This is a difficult exam – says Wiesława, ending the interview. He reaches out to his notes to review the material before entering the room.

Maybe Bayer?

Paulina Wydra, another graduate of the Awans schools, is walking by. She is… a student of German philology at the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce. He is waiting for an exam in the profession of a pharmaceutical technician. – Graduating from German is not enough. Having a pharmacy technician diploma, my chances on the job market are growing – he says.
A German philologist with the title of pharmacy technician sounds encouraging for a future employer. – Maybe we can find a job at the pharmacy. Who knows, maybe some pharmaceutical concern from Germany, for example Bayer – wonders Paulina Wydra.

They feel like it

Andrzej Miszczyk, director of Awans schools, walks among the candidates. – Such people should be an example for young people who think that they are entitled to everything and often neglect science – he says. Teachers, officials and company employees come to his school. Sometimes there will be a pensioner. These elders usually have Saturday and Sunday classes. – It’s not an easy thing to do when you have a family, you want to rest after a hard work week. But they want to – says Andrzej Miszczyk.

Jędrzej’s story

Sometimes there are even greater obstacles than family and work. – To this day I remember Jędrzej, a graduate of our post-secondary school – says Zbigniew Ciupiński, school director at the Kielce Vocational Training Center. Jędrzej was a masseur technician. – He was deaf. Such people have trouble understanding abstract content. It is difficult for them to explain what the diaphragm, liver is. Jędrzej came to classes with his mother, who helped him – says Zbigniew Ciupiński. Not necessarily in a disability cooperative. The first attempt at the vocational exam was unsuccessful. The exam for the masseur technique is very difficult, usually half of the candidates pass it, and more people pass the matura exam. The second time it worked. – It is difficult to describe Jędrzej’s joy. He thanked everyone, from cleaners, secretaries to teachers, says Zbigniew Ciupiński.

Then his second wish came true. He found a job. Works in the Rehabilitation Team at the Świętokrzyskie Cancer Center.

They need them

Another example is Peter. He suffers from muscle wasting. Virtually the only profession in which he can fulfill himself is an IT specialist. After passing the secondary school-leaving examination in the 3rd High School named after Cyprian Kamil Norwid in Kielce, he tried his strength at the Kielce University of Technology. He had to interrupt his studies because his rehabilitation took too long. He went to a post-secondary school at the Vocational Training Center. Two years ago, he obtained a degree in IT technician. – These are people who want, but do not always have to. They motivate each other because they care about success. They need it at work, they need it in their lives – says Zbigniew Ciupiński.

These people are an example

There are many stories like those in schools, Promotion or the Vocational Training Center. Each post-secondary school could boast about them. This is why these schools continue to function successfully. Sometimes they are helped by changing regulations.

– This is the case with occupational health and safety specialists, who must now be fully qualified – says Jan Korczyński from the Kielce Regional Examination Board. He is also full of admiration for older people who are applying for the title of technician. – It is a difficult exam, you have to pass the theoretical part, then the practical part. Despite this, I know people over 50 who want to pass it, because they need to work in a pharmacy or work as a medical carer – says Jan Korczyński.

He also believes that adults are an example to youth. – Yesterday I watched the professional exam in Końskie. The test takers wrote it intently until the last minute. Nobody gave a job earlier – says Jan Korczyński. Such a thing is unthinkable at the lower secondary or high school exams.
