It has been accepted that an unskilled worker is a person who has finished primary school and junior high school – and therefore has no learned profession. It would, however, reduce the problem, as there are fewer and fewer such people.
Elementary is not enough
Currently, everyone understands perfectly well that staying on the labor market only with completed elementary or junior high school, condemns the employee to accept the worst, heaviest and lowest-paid jobs.

More and more entrepreneurs consider an employee to be unskilled when he or she does not have the skills and knowledge needed to work in a specific position. If a person – regardless of education – is not able to perform specific professional activities, it is assumed that he is an unskilled worker. Most often, she is also poorly paid.
Qualifications well appreciated
Of course, it is easier for people with an appropriate base and knowledge to gain professional qualifications, for example in the course of further education or training. Certain professions and positions will be available faster for people with higher than primary education, even if in a specific situation they will start the company from one category – an unskilled worker.
An unqualified interview will miss
Until an unskilled worker acquires specific skills supported by appropriate certificates, his situation on the labor market will be difficult. All because employers will not invite such employees to job interviews, and even if they do, it is very likely that there will be another, better educated, and therefore better promising competitor. Worse still, reductions in companies start with those people whose jobs can be replaced quickly if necessary – that is, unskilled workers.
Worst job
Therefore, unskilled workers are left with the worst paid jobs. Why? Because they are the simplest, so almost anyone can take up such an activity. Among unskilled workers, the best situation is those who – especially in the high season – can count on employment in the dynamic construction sector. This industry also offers considerable opportunities for the development and completion of specialized courses that will move an unqualified employee higher in the hierarchy and on the payroll in the company.
They are having the hardest time
On the other hand, employees of cleaning companies, cottage workers, security guards, people employed in horticulture and agriculture in field work are without any chances for higher earnings. As long as they work legally and full-time, they have a chance to earn the lowest national wage. It is about PLN 1,400 on the hand.
A wide stream of emigration
In the Polish realities, however, unskilled workers feed a wide stream of emigration. Finding a job abroad is not only easier but also more profitable. It’s just that many unskilled workers – even those working on construction sites, with occasional work, and also seasonally in agriculture and horticulture – work illegally. It is not their work that is an advantage on foreign markets, but the lack of the need to pay contributions and taxes for them. Thus, unskilled workers largely determine the strength of the shadow economy both in Poland and in the countries to which they most often go to work. Unofficially, it is said that even every fourth Pole working abroad does not have a contract.
The school that gives the job
Meanwhile, on the Polish labor market, which has been repeatedly emphasized by employers, there is a hunger for qualified workers, especially specialists with vocational schools – basic professions and technical schools. Graduating from vocational training, even for adults, provides a solid foundation and creates opportunities that are not available in the labor market to many university graduates.
