Meditation for the 3rd Sunday of Advent, year C2

The Spirit of the Lord on me,

has sent me to preach the good news to the poor.

And who is poor? – I ask myself. It is said that God chooses what is weak, fragile and prone to injury in the eyes of the world. I think that in all the questions that contemporary man asks himself out of concern for the poor, and also about the type of poverty, there are also questions that affect a certain community, nations through a dramatic experience, even tragedy. I think – because it is an exceptional time – about the Polish reality of everyday life.

Today is a special anniversary. I go back to those events on December and it turns out that good God allowed me to remember that time as an event of passing from one reality to another, as a certain necessity, without which the path to freedom would be impossible …

The road as a certain stage, direction. Everything that is yet to come. It’s not that, not that freedom, just a beginning. The road is time given to us, and at its beginning something happens without which we would not be able to move on.

And time is short. We used to say that we are running out of time, that we are urgent that we lack time. Because what does it mean to have time? Some inner peace, probably. The moment the awareness grows that something can be lost irretrievably, the time given to us is wasted, reflection comes, a sad reflection. Well, there are things in this world that need to be taken care of. And this is where a kind of poverty manifests itself.

We don’t really have anything, what we wouldn’t work out for ourselves, what we wouldn’t strive for, what we wouldn’t waste our precious time on. On the other hand, we have the assurance that what we truly have, what we have, cannot be lost. What a hope. So nothing comes easy in life, a man is like a nurse leaning over the cradle of his child, watches that the newborn – our freedom in this case, however we understand it – does not lose any of its splendor.

How can we be preachers of the good news when we have not experienced it ourselves? Who has, will be added to him, the Evangelist teaches. A joyful giver is loved by God. So we are not completely poor, stripped of everything. Nevertheless, being stuck in the old one, it is difficult to awaken a new person in oneself, aware of being a gifted person and a path that calls: Come on!

The one who comes and who is is Someone met, going out to meet … The whole problem is to meet … Something comes towards us, and at the same time is close to us, urges us to go out, to leave our ‘home … Something it rules us out of hiding and makes us look for … As if we ourselves, just standing on the threshold, ready to go on our way, were already giving a sign, provoking the course of events.

Freedom needs trust, our inner will. When awake, she meets the Other, builds a community, and lights up the light. Together we have more. We have as much freedom as we managed to wake up from sleep, bring out … God is God with us, but being “with us” is a bond of participation, giving one another, one another, freedom, which is “the grace of all graces” at hand …

What is transmitted, what is born among people, hides the whole truth about God, whose absolute freedom is given to us in a spirit of joy. “Raise shouts and shout for joy, O resident of Zion, for great is in you, the Holy One of Israel.” So great that he is born a Child and stretches out his hand for human goodness. The freedom to give oneself is the fulfillment of love.

A God who comes, and at the same time He is in His way as if He was still saying: “The best is yet to come, to come.” Wait for the Lord and be happy because he is near … He is coming …
