Focusing on removing PiS from power is not a good solution in my opinion, and I will explain why in a moment. Let’s consider what allowed PiS to come to power in democratic elections. My shortest, most obvious answer: society. And what led the people who made this very decision, supporting those who do not care about all the values of a democratic society? Let’s start from the beginning…

By even briefly analyzing history, it can be seen that all moral values that guide society have “always” been largely shaped by religion. In the case of Poland, it is the Catholic Church. It is the values flowing from the Catholic Church that have shaped society over the years, whether we like it or not. And so, if the Church was represented by people who presented the basic principles of democracy, ie love, freedom, respect for the dignity of others, tolerance, and respect, the same flowed over society. This was the case with the regaining of freedom at the time when Wałęsa was jumping over the fence. There would be no “Solidarity” without the Church. There would be no democracy without John Paul II, who filled people with faith and united. At the heart of every religion, the values are the same. In Poland, social behavior was certainly shaped by the Catholic Church. The need for faith, natural for society, has always been used by people who found a place in religion to propagate their visions and influence this society, and at the same time for those who looked for role models and authorities in religion. Any social manipulation has always started with the use of the Church, with religious manipulation, undermining the above-mentioned basic values that are part of democracy.

I would compare the current political and social situation to that of Hydra. After cutting off the head, i.e. removing PiS from power in any possible way, three new ones will take its place, because it will not go hand in hand with the social changes that are the driving force behind the PiS actions. To prevent this, we need to start with the heart, and the heart of social change is the Church, which sets the values that guide a large part of society in life, whether someone likes it or not. It is the Church that sets patterns and influences consciousness. It was the Church that helped build the power of PiS, just as it helped 25 years ago in regaining freedom, in building democracy in Poland.

For centuries the Church has been used by many for their own purposes, to build their own vision of reality, to exercise power over society. It was the Church that initiated the present changes many years ago and used its position after the changes, when “Solidarity” won. It was then that so many people turned to the Church, and in the first years after the fall of communism so much put their trust in her. The Church took advantage of the trust placed in her by society. Through radio and television, among other things, he spread sick division propaganda, a hate policy that had nothing to do with fundamental religious principles, and built his financial empire.

In fact, it is unfair to say that it was done by “the Church”. Some people belonging to the church community did it, and Tadeusz Rydzyk was the leader of these changes. For many years he was building his empire in cooperation with PiS, or rather PiS with Rydzyk supported each other and not too much someone disturbed them, because in a free country many people simply used this young freedom, building their system of values, and not necessarily feeling the need to turn to the Church. many are ignored, treated as a separate, independent entity, having no major impact on society, which allowed to grow a distorted image of religion and distortion of basic values to exorbitant dimensions.

The principles of democracy are the basis of every religion. Democracy goes beyond denominational divisions. There is room in a democracy for a Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, atheist, and all other denominational forms. On one condition. All actions must comply with the principles of democracy. In Poland, democracy in the Church collapsed at its base many years ago, before it began to build itself up for good.

It was the Church in its present form that built the PiS electorate. Removing PiS from power without social changes could be a huge mistake, as it will not change the social image at all, and quite the opposite. Negative social changes have reached a very far point and it could turn out that by overthrowing the rule of PiS, we will completely sink ourselves, because the place of PiS, given the current social mood, could be taken by nationalists and fascists, who are already enjoying increasing public support. The orphaned PiS electorate would largely turn in their direction, because all social changes, not only in Poland, but throughout Europe, are heading in this direction. I don’t even want to imagine what would happen if such political forces were building an alliance with the CC. The situation when the bishop blesses nationalists with fascist inclinations at Jasna Góra and it is not met with the protest of the Catholic society, belonging to the PiS electorate, clearly shows the direction in which we are going.

It is worth considering what we can do in such a situation.

1. First, we definitely need moral authority. The overthrow of authorities by PiS is the order of the day. We are able to rebuild them, but through new models, new authorities building a new reality, a new democracy. We need people closely related to the Church who will have the courage to oppose and speak out loud about the foundations between faith and democracy. We need to reach people connected with the life of the Church who see the current situation and do not agree to it. We need supporters of democracy in the ranks of the CC.

Public figures from all walks of life can play a big role and they will start speaking openly about faith and worldview.

2. We need believers who fight for democracy. People for whom the Church and religion are definitely something more than Rydzyk and PiS. People are needed who will be able to convey that democracy is part of the foundations of faith. People who speak out loud about their views based on faith and democratic principles.

3. What is needed are atheists who, although they do not belong to any religion, will show that despite a different perception of reality when it comes to religion, they share the same ethical values in life, so well inscribed in democracy.

4. What is needed are the brave (crazy?) Who will penetrate the structures of the present Church, pulling out all the dirt and swindles so as to destroy the image of Rydzyk and the entire entourage as a religious authority. 5. People are needed who have been hurt, cheated, robbed by the Church in recent years. It is very important to reach them and mobilize them to cooperate.

6. What is needed is a general, open social debate on ideological issues. In short, we must learn to say aloud what is “playing in our soul”.

For my part, from this point on, I can promise that I will go hand in hand with everyone, regardless of religion – in the fight for basic values that build a healthy, informed society.

I am sorry if anyone was offended by my rather objective approach to religion, but I did it on purpose. It was the only way to be neutral about my point of view.

I am aware that my approach to the subject may seem quite controversial and indigestible to some. But the current situation is not standard and the mechanisms of combating the current system must go far beyond the standards we have known so far. In my opinion, only by thinking outside the box can we fight the current absurd socio-political situation.
