Problems between boss and employee

I know bosses who, due to the fact that they cared too much for their employees, have experienced difficulties that they write about in their e-mails like this:

  • I invested in a man, I taught him, after a year he left the competition, because he got PLN 500 more a month;
  • I was nice, I listened – when they had problems, they could come and talk, I always helped. At one point they got on my head. When I started to demand more calling customers or staying 1 hour longer once a week, they rebelled that they would not do it. That I am here to support them, not give them tasks;
  • the employee would constantly like to be praised. Nobody praised me, I had to build my self-confidence;
  • I have always built relationships with employees. But I realized that if they weren’t getting results, the client was dissatisfied, I couldn’t give them feedback. I was afraid to offend them, I was afraid that they would leave;
  • annoys me when they say they don’t have time to act again when I see that they are just mismanaging their time. I want to develop my business so that everyone moves forward and they look at the tip of their nose;
  • I don’t have time to translate or persuade. When I was translating I was patient as we were wasting time in meetings;
  • we work so much with the team and they still don’t get so many things on the fly. Paranoia. Only when I pull out, when they have a grip on their ass, do they mobilize. Simple conclusion: be less nice, they’ll work better.

This is a very difficult situation. That is why some people assume: I will not get close to my employees. A worker is an employee. It has to perform tasks. I recruit such. If someone doesn’t like it, goodbye. You can’t really trust them because they will always take advantage of you.

In turn, I know the employees who come to me for counseling, coaching, training, who say, write like this:

  • I have the impression that I am in some gulag. They keep demanding something of me. I have to constantly learn, change. I want to do, act and not keep training;
  • irritates me that the bosses only listen and listen, and then either do their thing or are unable to make decisions. They are undecided. I often have to figure out how to work myself;
  • I always tried my best. I did things faster than others. I was left after hours sometimes. I received e-mails and phone calls on the weekend. I have never heard “thank you, I appreciate it”;
  • my problem is that every time I got 100-105%, I was then thrown more. For example, I made PLN 100,000 in sales. That is PLN 10,000 more than expected. In the next six months, I received the goal: PLN 110,000. And others who reached PLN 80,000 still had the target of PLN 90,000. If I were doing PLN 89,000, I would still have a target of PLN 90,000. The problem is that for reaching the target above PLN 80,000, you would get PLN 100 for every thousand. But over PLN 90,000, I got PLN 10 for every thousand. What’s the logic in that ?!
  • what irritates me the most is the fact that tasks are being thrown into me and there are more and more of them. You don’t look at how much I have on my mind already. And when I say that I can’t do it because I have too much, they take it as an excuse. They say: optimize your working time, manage tasks better. I want to throw them a grenade into their office then;
  • the fact that the boss explains something once is not enough. It requires changes and achievements from us, when we often do not understand what it is about. He has something up in his head and we have to understand it in 5 minutes? We don’t know much about telepathy!
  • according to the management, since we have been working for years, our commitment should grow. And the problem is routine kills. Still the same!

It is not easy. Therefore, some employees build beliefs such as: Companies use people. The bosses are either indecisive or they impose a regime, and people are not respected. Whatever they say, I look at it through my fingers, I don’t trust bosses, they only pursue their selfish goals.

These are the thoughts of bosses, these are the thoughts of employees. On the outside, cooperation is very often good, but in fact many people hold grudges, regrets, anger. Sometimes these emotions are justified, sometimes they are our misjudgment of one random situation. Everyone would like to be respected, appreciated and understood, but the question is what are we really doing to make it so.

Sometimes we don’t do it because we don’t feel like it. Sometimes we don’t notice the problem, we think everything is great. We often cannot. We don’t think it makes sense. We think you have to do your job, and we’ll take care of a good relationship at home (possibly).

Even if you get along well with your boss or employee, I guarantee you can do better. If you don’t get along, you have five options:

  1. start a company and be a boss for yourself – no boss over you / no employees
  2. change job to another company where the boss / employee will be better
  3. work on a change to a different boss in the same organization / on a change of employee – transfer him to another department
  4. work to change your approach,
  5. work on changing the boss / employee approach

What are the benefits of living in “effective harmony” and working on yourself and your boss?

Sometimes, when things are bad, we want to change jobs or departments in the company. However, this is often not the best solution. If the cause lies within us, it will be wrong everywhere. Even if you start your own business, you may have the same problems, only with employees. If the boss is responsible, you can change jobs, but there is no guarantee that he will be better in the new job.

Of course, if you have a boss or employee a toxic, manipulative dictator, toxic entity that bullies, schemers, then you should run away. You don’t negotiate with terrorists. Either you meet their conditions and become a victim, or you liquidate. In a business, the employee’s goal is to quit, the boss’s goal is to release the toxic.

But if you are not dealing with pathology, then you should fight for a “better tomorrow”. Why?

  • often problems arise from one stupid situation around which strange myths have arisen. When the situation clears up, we remember it years later with a smile and appreciation;
  • it may turn out that if we influence the boss or employee and make him aware of his mistakes, he will be extremely grateful to us, because no one has ever shown him the mistakes he is making. This brings about a huge change that later becomes the basis for great cooperation. Everyone makes mistakes. If he meets a teacher who will guide him, then he can change a lot and achieve a lot. I have made stupid mistakes myself more than once, I was looking selfishly, I did not pay attention to the interests of the other person, I ignored what the employee did. If someone showed me my mistake, it gave me a lot of inspiration. Many times I was a “fool” who could be assessed as a dictator, selfish, disrespectful to others. It was not because of my bad intentions, of wanting to hurt. It was due to haste, lack of awareness, human stupidity;
  • by improving one aspect, you will improve many other elements. Business is people. The company is people. The country is people. It’s all based on what we get as humans. There is really no such thing as a country or a company. It all depends on who is in power at the moment and who is doing the work. When people start to set changes, rules, conditions, then a lot can change.

Is it simple? No or not always.

Does it come fast? No or not always.

Is it worth the effort to educate your boss or employee? Not always.

Could it be easier and faster than we thought? Yes.
