Who do people think I am? Who do you think I am? Who I am for you? The Gospel of the previous Sunday left us with these questions. It is probably better to avoid the temptation of quick and smooth answers, to be verified by life, the bitterness of knowledge about yourself and the human condition, to listen to the words of the Master …

And He’s on the way. He knows that the Father is his inheritance and destiny, that he and only he secures his fate . There is nothing in this world. The only one free and independent, with the cross paving the way for us to be like Him. Addicted to human kindness and openness, and this was different, like “today” – he was not accepted because he was going to Jerusalem .

Foxes have holes, birds of the air have nests, He had nowhere to support his head . Lonely, misunderstood. He was wearing what he was wearing and it was taken from him before his crucifixion.

Whoever puts his hand to the plow and looks back is not fit for the kingdom of God.

The meekness and radicalism of the Gospel make it a reality out of this world. And this Gospel is the constitution of this Kingdom. Do I want to follow today’s readings? Although it is right, no one has to favor me, it does not mean warmth and comfort, it does not mean no dilemmas related to loved ones or doubts. Only in faith can I look for the answer why and not look back…

Where do the alternative routes go? After the words about the freedom for which Christ has set us free , understood as an encouragement to love and service, the following part of the Letter to the Galatians sounds strongly: if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you they did not eat each other . It is difficult not to apply these words to our family, neighborly and national realities. Does this mean the failure of 1050 years of Christianity, or should it be viewed in the category of the continuous path of exiles, outlaws, Jews of eternal wanderers seeking a homeland in which only a journey is sure and given to all? Is it not better to notice in the evolution of mankind the action of the Spirit and the traces of what is evangelical, which has been included in the history of the community and carried through the generations?

We try to live our faith and defend it, it shapes culture, culture creates civilization – based on systems, institutions, and political constructions. And, as history shows, they fail…

Is it the fault of faith, or rather the rapid independence of culture, and then civilization consequences, from the original source?

Faith can survive, but – making a far-flung allusion – can the faith of politicians who believe that they will overcome evil, only need more power and action unlimited by law or doubt? Is there anything worse than creating a law … for others, a law that you don’t want to be subject to yourself?

I am close to understanding the kingdom of God as a reality that should be revealed in people’s behavior and thus shape the social and political reality – but it cannot identify itself with this reality, it must be free from it. The sphere of religion itself is not free from threats, and the imperfect regulations of law, if not accompanied by love, can become cruel and lead to exclusion, condemnation or revenge. The writer of the Letter to the Galatians sees only one solution – But if you let yourself be guided by the spirit, you will not be enslaved by the law.

Can I repeat after the psalmist:

Save me, God, for I take refuge in you, and I say to the Lord: “You are my Lord”.
The Lord is my heritage and destiny,
It is He who safeguards my fate.
