The best MediaTek chip for 2022 has arrived: it’s Dimensity 9000 and it is already tempting many manufacturers to use it in their next products

A few hours ago, MediaTek announced the best chip to hit shelves in 2022. It’s called Dimensity 9000, and it has some serious specs: it is capable of exceeding the maximum frequency of 3GHz, which translates into a computer’s power from a few years ago packed into the surface of a smartphone.

This is a re-challenge from Qualcomm, which will unveil its flagship chip for 2022 later this month, and Samsung, whose Exynos 2200 will power the Galaxy S22 expected to hit the market in the first half of next year. MediaTek is well-placed for a three-way battle, building on global leadership that it won in the summer, a top-of-the-line chip that looks incredibly efficient and is already appealing to many enthusiasts and manufacturers who intend to use it on their top-of-the-line devices in the first quarter of 2022. It is also the first chip to use TSMC’s advanced 4nm manufacturing process, so it is expected to be not only powerful but also battery friendly enough.

Producers are already queuing for Dimensity 9000

The first smartphones using the new MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chip, according to the latest rumors from China, will be made by Vivo, Realme, Xiaomi, Oppo, Samsung, Motorola and OnePlus. Virtually all major Android manufacturers plan to release Dimensity 9000 powered smartphones in the near future, which is a clear sign of how confident manufacturers are in the quality of work done by Taiwanese designers. Qualcomm will present its flagship after MediaTek, but the first smartphones with Snapdragon 898 should appear in January at the latest, while the first smartphones with Dimensity 9000 will have to wait a few more weeks.

In any case, it is safe to assume that companies intending to use MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000 received the layout weeks, if not months, before it was presented to the public and thus had the opportunity to test the good performance offered in the field. There is no doubt about the performance of the new top-of-the-range MediaTek chip: the maximum frequency is (slightly) over 3 GHz, a value that was the domain of computers until a few years ago.

Dimensity 9000 will be very fast, no doubt about it. The only doubt is how little energy it will use in relation to performance, and this is where the “real” gameplay will probably take place with rivals Qualcomm and Samsung, about energy efficiency, which has always been a sharp nuisance in ultra-efficient systems. To “go fast” you need a lot of energy, which in the case of smartphones is supplied by the battery. If the Dimensity 9000 uses less power and operates at or near the same level as the competing chips, MediaTek will win the game.

Will a smartphone worth 1 million plus appear in AnTuTu?

There is no doubt that MediaTek Dimensity 9000 will run fast. And the first references from AnTuTu have already appeared on the web: Dimensity 9000 reportedly took a turn on the popular benchmark platform, where it reportedly reached and exceeded a previously unprecedented million points.

Now, by comparison, the record is set slightly below 900,000 points, and belongs to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888. Will MediaTek be able to break the technical supremacy of the American company?
