God’s Kingdom is a treasure

Mat. 13.44 – The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a role. A man found it and hid it again. He happily went, sold everything he had and bought the role.

There are many comparisons in the New Testament that tell us what KB can be compared to. The most important ones are, of course, indicated by Jesus, because He came with the BC and preached the good news (Gospel) about the BC.

Let’s take a look today at the quoted passage from the Gospel of Matthew. What facts do we find in this short text? First, that it is a similarity, not facts, and therefore symbolizes a certain truth that is hidden in this picture. Second, that the symbol of KB is the treasure here. Another thing is, someone is looking for this particular treasure. We do not know what this treasure was, what value this treasure had, we do not know whether it had any material value at all, because it may have had value for the seeker, but not for others. Just like, for example, our children’s drawings are of exceptional value for us, while for someone else they can be daubs.

A treasure was hidden in the role in those days, there were no electronic safes, no Swiss banks, and no sophisticated thief warning systems, but most often anyone who wanted to hide something hid it in the ground, and only he knew it. Especially in Israel, where this country often fell into slavery, it was invaded by various armies, of course because of his unfaithfulness to God, but once someone was rich, and then what he had was not his. In Poland, our fathers and grandparents understood this very well. So that this treasure was in the ground, it was natural for those times.

The Seeking Man was very patient and persistent, and today people with metal detectors penetrate different corners of the earth to perhaps find their treasure. Yes, and then this man was looking for, perhaps once deposited this treasure right there, but he did not remember exactly where. He found it and, oddly enough, did not take it, but buried it where it was. This is a very strange behavior, because he could simply take it and no one would know, because the owner of the field probably did not have the awareness of this treasure, or the treasure was not a treasure for him, it had no value in his eyes. However, he buried him so that someone else would not take him away or buy the field. It is reminiscent of the times of the gold rush and the purchase of plots of land where prospectors could get rich.

This find made him very happy and he sold everything he had, we don’t know how much it was. Maybe a lot, maybe a little. Maybe they were his fields, but maybe just a donkey. In any case, he bought the land in which this treasure rested, he bought the land. And here our attention must also go to the owner of the present field, he sold the land so easily, maybe it was on the edge, maybe it was a wasteland, and it certainly didn’t have much value for him, since he got rid of it so quickly. He was not aware that for this merchant finding this treasure was a life goal and that everything he had earned so far was not of such value as this treasure.

That’s it when it comes to drawing conclusions from the text, now we will try to transfer it to the spiritual reality, after all, we took the picture apart, now let’s look for what the Lord Jesus teaches about KB.

Let’s try to think about what a field, treasure, seeker, landowner, price, exploration means.

The Lord Jesus points out that the Kingdom of God is like a treasure, so this treasure will be the center around which we will follow the action. We need to remember what He taught about KB – He says among you in the Luke. 17:21, the kingdom is at hand, says in Mark. 1:15, in Matt. 12:28 teaches that if I cast out demons with the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come to you in Mark. 10:14 we learn that we must become like children for the kingdom to be ours, in Luke. 6:20 we learn that we must be poor in spirit for our kingdom to be, we learn from the parable of the mustard grain Luke. 13.19 that it is not static, but it is expanding. From the Arch. 16:16 we learn the key point that until the time of John the Baptist there was law and prophets, but now from Jesus it is the time of God’s kingdom, and that it is based on power, not the Word – 1 Cor. 4:20 says the apostle Paul and adds in Rom. 14.17 – that KB is not food and drink, but justice and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

When it comes to the inhabitants of the Kingdom we see them in the apocalypse and this is how we can list – Of course, God, the Lamb, angels, Seraphim, Herubins , Archangels, people who are with the Lord. And a lot of other beings who are not mentioned by name, and we see them in visions and in the great heavenly crowd. We mean the team of God that took Elijah to the Kingdom and other events that bring us closer to the penetration of KB into our world.

Jesus and the apostles make it clear that with Christ’s coming to earth, God’s Kingdom came with him. This Kingdom in us is the treasure that God has placed in our hearts – His Holy Spirit, He makes in our hearts through the rebirth of God John 3:16 – the leaven of the Kingdom is deposited, which is to spread within us, transforming our soul and conforming to Christ, and then it also has to pour out of us so that others can hear and believe. Therefore, this treasure in the field is everyone who has been born again of God, is the Church – that is, a community of people reborn from God, for whom Christ has become a friend and brother.

So what is a field and why do you need to buy it?

Adam and Eve, through their disobedience, gave the earth to the devil’s rule. We see this truth with our own eyes, and it is confirmed by the words of the Gospel of Luke. 4,6 – where the devil tells Jesus – “… I will give you all their power and their glory (showing Jesus all the kingdoms of the world) because it has been given to me, and I give it to whomever I want.” This grim truth concerns this act of disobedience to God and the adoption of a devilish view of man’s life that caused the death. So we see that the field in the parable is the world that belongs to the devil.

What’s next? Where are we? Well, before we knew the Lord and before we gave Him life, we were sold to the devil and sin – Rom. 4:23 and doomed like Adam and Eve our parents to death. Each of us had a letter written against us, Colossians 2: 13-14, and lived without hope and blessing, groaning in our hearts for something better, for a hope that was not seen. The devil kept us under the rule of law, and we were rightly owed death. We longed for something beautiful and just, beautiful and pure, because we were created by God and His breath was still in us.

Until the day came when the seeker found us, deeply buried in our sins and bitterness, in powerlessness and unbelief. In addictions and anger, and he recognized that I was looking for you! Yes, it was a wonderful day when the Lord looked at us as He pulled out the filthy us and cleansed us and said you belong to heaven. Perhaps at first we didn’t even understand the price he paid for us. The price sounded – all you got! Jesus could only give up his life – Apok. 5,9 … “you are worthy to take the book and remove its seals, because you were killed and redeemed for God with your blood people from every tribe, language and people and nation …” a note that turned against us with his requirements and removed it, nailing it to the cross. ” He bought us, the price – His life, and our bills hung with Him. O Lord, how grateful I am!

The devil thought he had won that this field was worth nothing, but Jesus saw treasures like you and me in it and he still sees. He paid, erased, rose from the dead and invites you to return to the Father’s house! We are His property, as long as we have experienced the encounter with Him, as long as we have given ourselves to Him forever, as our own. The devil has no claim on us, the price has been paid. It is done!

From this great moment, the Kingdom of God in us has the potential to develop and dominate our lives, we should actually live to fulfill the will of the Father with the Holy Spirit. We no longer belong to this world, but we have a different goal, to be God’s Heralds. It does not happen automatically, but we have a long process of changing the carnal into the spiritual. God leads us tirelessly and changes us. If we surrender to Him we undergo rapid and radical changes, but if we continue to love sin, disobedience, our growth will be slow or not at all. God will not give up on us because He loves us, but sometimes He will send us into the desert so that we may understand that our happiness is to be close to God. Ps. 73.28.

What about this field owner , after a while he understands that he has lost the treasure and will try to drag us back, he will want to deceive us, lie and prove that in this world it’s best with him. And we can fall for it sometimes. We may long to be buried in the soil at times, but let us know that this is not our place, that our place is the Father’s house. Besides, we have the authority of the Kingdom to tell him where his place is when it comes to our lives, but also, in Jesus’ name, where he belongs to the other treasures the Lord invites us to seek.

Yours in the Lord Kazik Juszczak 01/30/2015
