The electronics fair in the German capital offered some surprises. A lot of space was devoted to smartphones, but there were also gadgets for a smart home

The Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin, better known as IFA 2019 in Berlin, which started on September 6, has already shown the public the most important technological innovations of this year.

The main heroes of the 2019 edition of the most important European electronics fair were undoubtedly smartphones, in particular models compatible with the new, high-speed 5G network. But that doesn’t mean they were the only ones that caught the attention of those working in the industry: a lot of space was devoted to gadgets that have become indispensable, such as headsets, and much more bizarre, such as LED backpacks. The presence of home appliances, of course smart, which are on the way to become an important part of our digital life, as well as other devices for a smart home, was also important.

IFA 2019: 5G smartphones

As widely announced in recent weeks, LG has chosen IFA 2019 to present its first smartphone with three screens: the book G8x ThinQ, with two main displays and a third rear. It’s not ready for market yet, but it should be soon. Samsung, on the other hand, unveiled the new Galaxy A50: it is a 5G smartphone from the Korean manufacturer “for everyone”, combining the latest network technology with an affordable price. Much less affordable is the eagerly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Fold (bis), this time in a more robust version than its predecessor. In turn, Sony presented Xperia 5, the successor (with an obvious numbering jump) to Xperia 1.

IFA 2019: headphones with translator

One of the most useful and interesting gadgets that could be seen in Berlin was certainly the whole range of Timekettle smart earphones. These are handset translators that translate speech into many foreign languages in real time. Whether it is for tourism or business, this is one accessory that can make a difference when traveling.

IFA 2019: Smart Devices

More and more smart home devices appear at the electronics fair, and IFA 2019 in Berlin is no exception. Philips unveiled a new series of Signify smart bulbs, a new Hue Smart socket, a new Hue Smart Button switch, a portable Hue Go bulb and Philips Hue filament bulbs (faux). Smart switches and sockets are also available from the Italian company Iotty, which, as you would expect from a line of items made in Italy, combines design and technology. In turn, both LG and Samsung presented wardrobe models (yes, even wardrobes are now intelligent) equipped with an air purifier and (in the LG model) the function of drying and ironing clothes. In turn, Samsung surprised everyone with a cyclonic vacuum cleaner (a direct competitor of the famous Dyson) and a “modular” intelligent refrigerator: it is modular, depending on the needs of the family, the space available and the decor of our kitchen. Of course, it is connected and has an internal camera.

IFA 2019: smart TV

The presence of new smart TV models at IFA 2019 can be summed up in full with two letters: 8K. This is the most advanced technology that manufacturers are trying to force, also at the fair in Berlin. LG officially unveiled the previously announced “Signature” series, which in addition to having an 8K OLED screen, folds inside the base. In turn, Samsung presented new TVs with frames from the ‘The Frame’ series and a huge 98-inch QLED 8K TV.
