The final version of iOS 11 has been pre-released on Reddit, so we can see what’s new in iPhone X
Well informed say it was the work of an in-house developer who was dissatisfied with the treatment he received from the Cupertino-based company. Be as possible late Saturday evening (US time), which is likely the final version of iOS 11 arrived on Reddit, which will be available for download on compatible devices from September 12 onwards.
Someone took the opportunity to scour the source code (a set of text instructions that are “hidden” behind functions, tools and programs) for confirmation and iPhone messages. As in the past few weeks, there’s a lot of information about the mobile operating system from Apple: for example, the shape and size of the Apple Phone of the Decade has been confirmed, as well as the disappearance of the Home button.
iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8S
Although there were few doubts, the early release of iOS 11 allowed us to find out the names of smartphones that Tim Cook will present on September 12 from the Steve Jobs Theater stage at the new Apple headquarters. There will be an iPhone 8, but there will also be an iPhone X: the iPhone 7S will disappear from the radar – at least when it comes to its name. The next line of Apple smartphones will consist of the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus (similar in shape, size and specification to the iPhone 7) and the iPhone X (which should probably be interpreted as “10” written in Roman numerals).
Frameless but recessed display
Not that there is a need now, but iOS 11 gave us some clear tips on what the design of the iPhone X will look like. As we know, the edges will be reduced to a minimum to make room for the OLED display produced by Samsung: the only concession will be a small indentation at the top where Apple engineers and designers have placed the speaker for calls, proximity sensor, front camera and other sensors necessary (as we’ll see in a moment) to unlock the device.
Goodbye Home button, hello function bar
A stylistic solution that “forced” engineers under the sign of a bitten apple to give up, for the first time since the presentation of the iPhone, from the physical Home button. Apple developers rejected attempts to integrate it with the screen using a series of “underground” sensors, opting for a functional bar from which you can launch the most used or favorite applications. The rest of the Home button functionality will be “moved” to the other buttons on the sides of the iPhone X: for example, to initiate a conversation with Siri you will be able to press and hold the side button a little longer.
Face ID
Ditching the Home button will most likely lead to the abandonment of Touch ID and the use of fingerprint scanning to authenticate and unlock the device. In its place will appear Face ID, i.e. the long-announced biometric system based on face scanning. Based on a three-dimensional camera plus a low-light laser scanning system, with both sensors housed inside a small recess on top of the iPhone X.
Lightning portrait
Thanks to iOS 11 previews, you can discover the new iPhone X photography feature for the first time. Among the various specifications, Portrait Lightning is listed, suggesting a new shooting mode that is based on the Portrait Mode that arrived on the iPhone 7 Plus last year year. But that’s not all that is new on the multimedia front of the iPhone X: the Cupertino device will be able to record movies in FullHD (1920 × 1080) resolution at 240 frames per second and 4K (3860 × 2160) at 60 frames per second.
Animoji
Apple has always tried to offer its users the best possible chat and messaging experience. Within this framework, the creation and selection of emojis and stickers has always been of great importance. iOS 11 and iPhone X will be no exception: Apple has created Animoji, an animated three-dimensional emoji that can be customized by the user using a front laser sensor to track their visual expression.
