We checked where the most people were sent for internships in recent years by the Municipal Employment Agency in Kielce. Top of the list – mainly offices.

From 2010 to September 2015, 120 people completed internships at the Municipal Family Support Center in Kielce, at the Provincial Office – 101, at the Marshal’s Office – 98, and at the Municipal Employment Office in Kielce – 76. Kielce City Hall – 123.

A lot? In absolute numbers, for sure. However, compared to several hundred people employed in the Kielce city hall – this number does not make such an impression anymore. And if you compare it with as many as 190 people, who at the same time were directed by the Poviat Labor Office in Kielce for internships to the Municipal Office in Raków, which currently employs over 40 people – the disproportion is huge.

Internships not that attractive?

As we wrote several days ago, interns, on a smaller or larger scale, are directed by employment offices mainly to other offices and state institutions, although these, unlike private companies, do not guarantee employment. And it is the issue of the guarantee of employment after the end of the internship, which is one of the conditions that must be met by an employer applying for an intermediary intern, that is the most controversial.

– An internship is an instrument that allows unemployed people to gain experience in specific work positions, in specific occupations. In the case of a provincial city, such as Kielce, where the number of jobs in the administration at various levels is relatively large, the demand for employees with experience in similar positions is also quite significant – explains Marek Hadała, deputy director of the Municipal Employment Office. – There are about 28,000 business entities in Kielce. Of these, less than 500 are public sector entities. The rest are enterprises, the vast majority of which employ up to 5 employees and do not apply for many interns. However, among employers there is also a growing interest in other forms of support, which have been available since last year – he explains.

Public offices will settle the effects

According to the new regulations, more money from the ministry can count on those intermediaries that will have effects, i.e. more unemployed people will get a job.

– It’s just that this effectiveness in the case of internships in offices cannot be directly calculated, because competitions are held for clerical positions. In the case of non-official positions, the matter is simpler – admits our interlocutor. – That is why new forms, such as refund of part of remuneration or internship vouchers, have been available since last year to be more advantageous both for employers and offices. They last longer, so their effectiveness can be checked only now. And the interest in them among private entrepreneurs is growing, because the tendency to hire has been visible for about a year – explains.
