Are you making New Years resolutions? New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day is for many of us an opportunity to introduce some positive changes in our lives. Some decide to take care of their diet, others get rid of the addiction, still others set goals for themselves, the achievement of which will bring satisfaction and allow you to enjoy more life. When making New Year’s resolutions, it is worth thinking not only about yourself, but also about your pet. I encourage you to implement at least one dog-related decision in the new year. Would you like to know what will be on my New Year’s list of “dog” resolutions – or rather, dog-stings?

WHAT DO I DECIDE?

New Year’s resolutions result from self-reflection and most often they answer the self-asked question: how to be a better version of yourself? In the case of pet owners, you can think about what to do to give more of yourself as a guardian dog. I wonder what my bitch would say if she could talk? She would probably wish she could spend more time together … I took that into account when I was doing my psyche.

# 1-STOP-ROUTE

Dog owners easily fall into patterns. We walk with our pets on the same paths – especially when we have little time. This routine is actually not bad. For most pets, a slow walk around the neighborhood is an essential item on the agenda every day. There are even such quadrupeds that always take care of the toilet in the same place, and only explore a different area … But sometimes it is worth breaking the pattern – go a different route than everyday or even take the dog for a walk to a place he has never seen before and, of course, sniff it. This sniffing is extremely important to a dog. Using a nose piece, it collects information about a given area and its visitors. By continuing to go to the same places, we make the dog – let me resort to the metaphor – read the same book over and over again. I live in PoznaƄ, which has a lot of green areas, and I still visit squares and parks with my dog, which are relatively close to my house. So in the new year I decide to go somewhere where we haven’t been yet, at least once a month. Even if it involves driving a few stops by public transport. Every once in a while I will say “no” to my routine. The benefits will be mutual: exploring the city is not only “dog” fun!

# 2-DOG-TRICKS

When a dog appears in our family, we teach it basic commands that facilitate human-animal communication. The classic set includes: “sit down”, “to me”, “no! “,” To the place “,” wait “and one trick, completely impractical from the pragmatic point of view:” give me a hand “. Once we learn to communicate with our pet and we have a common language, we forget about training. Mistake! After all, dogs love to learn – after all, learning often means rewards, i.e. dog treats. It is pure pleasure. With that in mind, I would teach my bitch a new trick every now and then during the first years. My Joszka gives her right paw, left paw, gives a high-five, makes meerkat (that is, stands on two paws), gives a voice, jumps on the couch and lies down – on the command. It’s been a while now and I think it’s high time to get back to training. This year I will teach the pup something new. I am still hesitating whether it will be a “crawl” or a “dead dog” … Anyway, it will surely bring satisfaction to both sides.
