The worst sort of Poles?

The mockingly used epithet “The worst sort of Poles” is a dangerous political drug for the KODers.

From the very beginning, I was skeptical about the creation of the midsummer, and even more so about the provocative identity of KOD and participants of the democratic movement around the degrading term Jarosław Kaczyński, used for us “The worst sort of Poles”. From yesterday, my skepticism became clear criticism. Why?

1. Creating the mocking and provocative identity of the KODers around the degrading expression JK is not an innocent game. On the contrary: it is to create in the participants of the democratic movement an identity and bond around the individually and communally experienced experience of humiliation and hurt. Even if we ridicule it in this way, and from what JK intended to humiliate us, we make a source of a kind of pride, it is around the humiliation that we create our own identity, the purpose of which is the emotional experience of constant and growing hostility towards JK and PiS.

The mockingly recalled humiliation serves a politically deep emotion of hostility towards a political opponent. This hostility is to be so persistent, strong and energizing that it is the constant political fuel of our winding-up. So that this gulf could never be closed again.

2. By mocking this scornful epithet, we are unconsciously making a sort of negative projection. Without expressing it directly, and what is more, hiding our actual intentions, we communicate to the PiS people and its supporters: “You are the worst, the worst. We cannot tell you this directly, because we are too cultured and we know what is right, and what not, and we do not want to lose in our own eyes, but you spellcasters are the worst type of Poles “. Such – in my opinion – is real, unconscious, but quite legible content and intention of this half-conscious, half-unconscious negative projection.

So simply put, we inverted and reinforced the insult of JK, and showed it as a mirror to our opponents. After the intelligentsia, we expressed our own strong emotion of contempt and hatred, while maintaining a feigned feeling of being a victim of insults and humiliation ourselves.

3. Using the NSP epithet for the purposes I described above, we entered the narrative of Kaczyński and PiS. The fact that we have made a mockery of it does not change the fact – especially in the context of our negative projections – that we have become slaves to the narratives of our opponents and have descended to a similarly low level of mutual insults and humiliations.

4. In a strictly political sense, the use made of the NSP is brilliant: we have a great, energizing, mocking epithet that very effectively organizes the various emotions necessary in political struggle. Unfortunately, it is an instrument of political struggle against mutual destruction. This is the level of the Tutsi and Hutu fighting on the eve of this, before they started killing each other with machetes.

NSP is a dangerous political drug designed to keep us in “good shape”. It is no different from the political drugs with which Kaczyński and PiS leaders have been stuffing their followers and supporters for years. I recommend caution in the use of powerful drugs – also, and perhaps especially, in politics.
