If you act quickly after it falls into the sea, there is a good chance of saving your mobile device. As? By using alcohol

Summer is just around the corner. We go to the beach, go on boat trips and never miss an opportunity to pull out our smartphones and start taking one photo after another. Despite the risk that between taking a selfie on the beach and a photo with friends on the shore, your smartphone may land in the water. Everything that goes with it.

So it would be good to consider this unpleasant possibility and be able to intervene quickly. It may seem strange to you, but there are some very effective techniques which, if performed immediately after falling into the sea, increase the chances of saving the device. The main advice, however, is to keep the danger as far as possible. As? By being more careful. We’re not telling you to leave your smartphone under an umbrella or even at home, but to use one of these protective, waterproof cases – which you can buy for very little money.

Smartphone in the sea: the first step

That said, let’s go back to square one. What to do when the smartphone slips out of our hand and lands in the sea? First off, don’t waste your time. If you are on a boat, don’t wait until you reach the beach before taking action. In such cases, it is necessary to remove all removable parts from the mobile device, starting from the battery (if possible), through the SIM card, microSD card and the cover. Warning: even if your instincts tell you otherwise, do not turn on your smartphone immediately after taking it out of the water. It’s also important not to try to touch the touchscreen or, worse, press one of the buttons. You will reduce the chances of liquid entering the circuits.

Elimination of harmful substances

Let’s move on to the second step. It is worth making a small comment at this point. Sea water, as is well known, contains many minerals, including salt, which is very corrosive to smartphones. There may also be residues of other substances that remain inside the device after it dries, damaging it. Therefore, it is very important to remove them completely. The perfect ally is alcohol, one of the main substances used to clean electronic devices.

Immersing the smartphone in alcohol

As soon as the cell phone is in the water, it should be completely submerged in 99% pure isopropyl alcohol. This is because fluid, unlike water, does not harm the circuits. On the contrary. When the alcohol penetrates your smartphone, it removes salt and other substances present in the seawater and helps the device dry out faster. It is recommended to “soak” the smartphone for at least 30 minutes (it would be advisable to repeat this practice for several “sessions”).

After this time, just wait for the device to dry completely. It is recommended to wait at least one night. You can also place your smartphone inside the rice to speed up the process. At this point, all you have to do is try to turn it on again and hope that the system worked.
