Being able to use the same WhatsApp profile on two phones simultaneously is one of the forbidden dreams of hundreds of millions of users worldwide, but that is about to change

One of the most anticipated new features of WhatsApp, the ability to use the same profile on two phones simultaneously is finally set to become a reality. This is an evolution of WhatsApp’s “multi-device” feature that has been available to everyone for several weeks, but with a serious limitation.

The limitation is expected to disappear soon according to the always well-informed author of the WABetaInfo blog, who found another hint about the arrival of the “multi phone” in the latest beta of the application. A novelty that can really change the way we use WhatsApp for the better, for example by allowing us to use the same profile on personal and work phones. Or two personal phones, even one Android and one iOS iPhone. The latter option, incidentally, would be an evolution of the iOS to Android chat archive migration feature, which is also very up-to-date. After months if not years of inertia, WhatsApp has apparently woken up.

WhatsApp on Two Phones: How It Works Now

Thanks to the recent introduction of “multi-device” on WhatsApp, you can use the same profile on up to four devices simultaneously. The big limitation, however, is that of the four devices, only one can be a mobile device with a telephone SIM card. So one smartphone or tablet, but maybe two or more computers.

Whoever trying to do a multi-device WhatsApp procedure on two phones today will get the unfortunate result of disconnecting the first phone as soon as they plug in the second.

WhatsApp on Two Phones: What’s Changing Now

Messages captured by WABetaInfo are all in a screenshot posted by the blog: It shows a message WhatsApp warns the user that the app is downloading encrypted messages on the new, paired device. This is the same message we see every time we connect a new device to WhatsApp, in the same way we mentioned above.

But this time, the screenshot is different: it’s vertical, so it’s from a smartphone or tablet. According to WABetaInfo, in the latest WhatsApp beta it is possible to use the same profile on two phones, or at least on two mobile devices.

WhatsApp on two phones: when is it coming

As we’ve always explained when we talk about new features in WhatsApp Beta, this time we repeat that the feature is not yet available to everyone. In the past, WhatsApp often put interesting new features into beta apps without bringing them to the official apps (or doing so much later like with multi-device).

This time, however, the signs are different: WhatsApp has actually significantly accelerated the development of new features in the last two months and is updating the app much more frequently. He seems to have awakened from a lethargic state, and the reason for his awakening is arguably the increasingly credible competition from Telegram, which is releasing new features at an amazing pace every month.
