Read Time:3 Minute, 13 Second

I’ve been building this temple for almost 25 years and you want to tear it down and rebuild it in three days? I applied so carefully to who Wojtek Jałoszyński is today, and God, you want to break it to me? Yes, destroy, but also rebuild.

Today, the so-called Personal branding – build your brand. Sometimes you can also meet the name create yourself – create yourself. The point is that we are simply a rough product that can be “sold” nicely with a little effort. And let’s face it, we do it! We build ourselves, our identity and position. If it were not so, we would not go to schools, study, read books, and do many other things. I build myself, in a way I want to be a “brand” that other people will see and admire (how hard to admit it, but it is!).

And then I wonder when everything spills out of my hands. I am surprised, though I shouldn’t. It is Jesus who, through difficult experiences, puts order in my heart. In his temple. Difficult, unpleasant experiences that happen to me in my life are to shape my character. They are to strip me of unclean desires, intentions, shopping and bargaining with God. They teach me that before Him I will always be as I really am. Weak, sinful but also with what is holy in me. And He will not reject me, but accept me as the prodigal son.

The good news today is that I don’t have to pretend to be anyone. I don’t need to tense my muscles and flex my spiritual muscles. Although I admit that I do it often. But then I get the whip and my conversion takes place. My temple is collapsing, my little selfish world. It seems to me that everything is already in ruins, but no! The good news is that if He breaks down my fortress, He is also building it up again. However, it does it in its own way. He has torn down what is old, plowed it up and is now building from scratch. And that’s the Good News! The fact that He does it and not me! The Good News is also that it is He who destroys the evil in me. The fact that I don’t have to do anything. I don’t have to force anything to change. All I have to do is accept what happens in my life with humility, gratitude and hope that it all makes sense.

The good news from today’s liturgy is also that Jesus overturned tables, drove out the animals, and spoke to the people. To the people he said. Jesus didn’t touch any of these people. This is how God deals with us. He overturns tables and chases animals away. However, it does not hurt me. He is extremely gentle and sensitive in his behavior. He doesn’t condemn me, he doesn’t destroy me, he doesn’t want to hurt me. He does not throw accusations without cover. It doesn’t hurt me. He doesn’t want me dead. He just says I screwed it up but He’ll rebuild it. He embraces me like his son.

Sometimes it’s hard to agree to difficult experiences or suffering. Nobody likes to suffer. Nobody likes failure. But we must remember that it was through the cross, which is a shame for the Jews and foolishness for the Greeks, that our salvation was accomplished. Because what is weak and stupid for people is an opportunity for God, and for us it is a chance to reveal His power, love and mercy in my life.

Father, lead me and break what is sinful and filthy in me. Knock over the tables I’m trying to make a deal with. Drive away animals, animal instincts and make me fully human, i.e. your son.

Amen
