Can you catch the coronavirus from a dog?
You can sleep peacefully, dogs do not infect coronavirus! There is no evidence that a dog is infected with it. This virus has adapted to spread from person to person, so pets do not infect it.
Can a dog bring home a virus on-fur?
Unfortunately, yes. A case of very low levels of the virus was detected in a dog in Hong Kong. However, there were no signs of the disease, indicating that the dog was not sick. He probably had contact with a sick owner or licked an infected surface, which put the virus on the surface of his body. That is why it is so important not to hug or kiss the dog in the current situation, and to wash your hands thoroughly after each contact with him, after a walk and after playing together. If and how to disinfect the leash and collar after walks?
Disinfection will help you get rid of the virus that may be on the surface of your dog accessories. You can use alcohol-based disinfectants for this purpose or buy spirit, dilute it with water (200 ml of 95% spirit for 125 ml of water) and pour it into a container with an atomizer. This way, you will get 60% alcohol, which you can successfully spray the dog’s collar, leash and harness after returning from a walk. Thanks to this, you increase your and your family’s safety.
Do I have to bathe my dog after each walk?
Of course not! However, you can disinfect its accessories and use a special liquid to clean the paws. Also remember to clean the dog’s lair more often and to wash your hands after each contact with your pet.
What is the best way to deal with a dog when we are quarantined?
Quarantine is a time when under no circumstances should you leave the house! Even a short walk with your dog is not such a reason because you never know if you will meet someone on your way. If you are in this situation, ask for help from family, friends, neighbors or those who are currently offering help with walking dogs – there are many such initiatives already. Remember, however, that you cannot contact this person! Prepare your dog for a walk, disinfect his leash and collar, and fasten at the agreed time in front of the apartment door – wear gloves. The person who will pick it up should also wear gloves, and after the walk, leave the dog at the door of the apartment.
You can also leave your pet for the time of quarantine in the care of family or friends, and use the services of a dog hotel. It is very important to take all precautions!
