Mountain View company is withdrawing music app and encouraging switch to YouTube Music. Here’s how to transfer songs from Play Music and other transaction details

Google’s acquisition of YouTube is one that everyone remembers: it was 2006 when the Mountain View giant purchased the service for $ 1.65 billion. At that time, the video-sharing platform was just emerging and many critics questioned its potential, but Google was far-sighted.

Now it has been transformed into a successful channel that is profitable through adversaries. In addition, it has integrated other services, and YouTube Music stands out among them. The channel is designed for people who want to search and listen to music online, and it works in a similar way to other audio streaming platforms. To avoid segmentation of users into different platforms, the company decided to withdraw Google Play Music. By the end of December 2020, the music service will be replaced by YouTube Music. The announcement appeared in August, but the implementation of the project took several months. What now?

Goodbye Play Music: go to YouTube Music

The transition from Play Music to YouTube Music will be gradual. There are several reasons for this. For example, the new music app doesn’t have all the features of Play Music, and the company wants to standardize them before integrating them together.

To encourage change, Google is working to make the YouTube Music app for Smart TVs more intelligent and usable.

More improvements are in the pipeline, especially for Android TV users. Finally, one of the most anticipated new features is background music playback, as is already the case with other platforms. If YouTube Music is closed on the smartphone, the music continues to play normally and the user can still use their device for other activities, including launching other applications.

Note that it will take some time for users to transfer songs from one application to another. Fortunately, the procedure is really very simple.

How To Transfer Music From Google Play Music To Youtube Music

To make a transfer, after logging in to your Google account, where we use Play Music and all other brand services, go to music.youtube.com/transfer. At this point, the interface prompts a special command to start the transfer.

The Play Music Collection includes songs you’ve downloaded and purchased, playlists and stations you follow, albums, but also songs you like or don’t like.

In addition, any billing information from a Google Play Music subscription is also transferred and converted to the equivalent of a YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium subscription. Price and features remain unchanged.

The information captured by Play Music over time will allow Google to suggest songs to the user who makes the switch to YouTube. So the user will not have to make an effort to teach the machine his tastes, favorite songs, genres and so on.

After the transfer is complete, music will be available from both apps, at least until Google decides to permanently remove Play Music.

One thing is for sure: switching won’t happen automatically, so it’s imperative that users follow the procedure if they don’t want to lose all the music they’ve accumulated over the years.
