Seek what is most valuable …
Walking on water is not an easy activity. Peter’s trial turned out to be a short-term victory, as he was scared of the storm and the waves and began to see with human eyes, instead of the eyes of faith and trust in the Lord. We are so afraid of failures and failures that not only do we not get out of our boats, but we do not even go out to the lake. We have dreams of changing the world to be useful in God’s hands, and how often does it end up with religious customs? A person who goes through difficulties and experiences a unique transformation, gains courage, gains patience. These quite exotic features in today’s world are needed to persevere in the experience, cross the dark valley and enter a new reality, which is not necessarily our dream oasis of rest, but perhaps another challenge. Without losing sight of the Lord in this storm, we can follow Him on the worst of the waves. Lightning bolts that pierce our soul can burn out our selfishness, our desire for conformity, our ideas for life. When we look through the eyes of the Lord through this storm, we will see that in it we find many human beings, amazed, we can understand then that from my land so far, I would never have seen them. And yet they, like me, need to see the direction, touch the garment of the Lord and never let go of it.
Our Isaac must be sacrificed, we don’t own it. What seemed to be of great value in our lives must be placed on the burnt altar until there is nothing left but me and the Lord. Elderly John on the island of Patmos heard the Lord first, but the mere hearing was of no value, only when he turned to the familiar voice did he see that the sight struck him, so that he fell to the ground like a dead man. Do we want such meetings with the Lord or is it enough that we hear something there? God ultimately protected Isaac, but Abraham realized that he no longer belonged to him, but to God’s intricate plan in which he and his son and subsequent generations would go on to fulfill the Lord’s plan. In order for us to be part of your plan, we must give up ourselves.
It is the cross that is the way to the most holy place , without it, the veil still hangs and separates us from the fullness. Our old man would like a shortcut, he would like it soon, right now. And the Lord patiently guides us in teaching about himself. I already seem to know that I understand, and suddenly it turns out that it was only hearing. Meeting the Lord face to face evokes mixed feelings. I am in fear, admiration, joy and love, it is wonderful to meet the One who created me, shaped me, gave me direction and meaning. Each such meeting means that we are ready to give Him another part of our lives, give up our own ideas and take up His will. Whether it is in terms of the challenges we face, or the abandonment of the path we have taken so far, or even giving up our ideas of husband, wife, in favor of your choices.
We would like to control our lives, but we see that this control puts us in bondage and that we lose the joy of salvation, we lose the freedom that flows from God’s grace. We become sarcastic, critical, we become old ramolas who sniff everywhere for conspiracies. Why, because we are afraid of changes, we are afraid to lose. Yet Paul exhorts “if I had hoped in Christ in this life, I would be most regrettable.” 1 Cor. 15,19
