The holiday season is in full swing. My friends flood me with pictures of the beautiful southern beaches, and I… Unfortunately, I cannot afford a longer vacation this year. While looking for an idea for a short trip with a dog, I found a lot of offers prepared especially for pet owners. It’s like a hotel and a dog school rolled into one – doesn’t that sound great?

HOLIDAY WITH A DOG …

… is almost always a good idea (always consider all options before making a decision to make sure you choose the best option for you and your dog). I remember that a dozen or so years ago a vacation trip in my family was inextricably linked with leaving my dog with my grandparents. And that was the norm. In those days, hardly anyone took a pooch on vacation, because it was problematic – in hotels or restaurants, pets were rather not welcome. Fortunately, a lot has changed in this regard in recent years. Booking a room in a cool, pet-friendly facility is not a difficult task. In the bar, the dog can not only be with his people – he can also count on fresh water from the staff. It also happened to me that the waiter or the manager brought some tasty morsels for the pup from the kitchen (I wrote more about this in this column!). This is the best proof that nowadays quadrupeds are not only accepted, but – in some pubs – even welcome . It makes me very happy!

PSI SAVOIR-VIVRE

Of course, self-organized holidays with a dog are comfortable and stress-free when our pet knows dog savoir-vivre: he responds correctly to commands, can restrain his curiosity and knows when to ignore stimuli from the environment. You’ve probably seen a quadruped, who clearly wasn’t able to calmly accompany their guardian during a meal in a restaurant or in another, new, unknown place (he was breaking up, barking, squeaking, harassing other people), so you know how distracting and in principle it is an unpleasant sight. This is one of the reasons why dog training is so important – it really gives us freedom and peace. It’s best to start them during the puppy period, but raising an older dog can also be effective and fun. 🙂

NOTE: if you and your pooch are just starting a life together and you want to know where to start training, be sure to check out our article on this topic!

Dog owners often rely on dog trainers and behaviorists. This is the right decision, especially if we are dealing with a spontaneous, independent or experienced pooch. You can read more about the types of training and how dog nurseries operate here.

NOT ONLY STATIONARY TRAINING

If the pooch is not a well-mannered gentleman yet, is it from a common thread holiday? Fortunately not! It doesn’t matter if your pet is 6 months old or 10 years old, knows dog savoir-vivre or not. You can take him on holidays, where he will not only be a welcome guest, but also have fun and study together! When you go out with your dog, you can combine business with pleasure. There are more and more places in Poland where holidays for pets and their guardians are organized. It consists in the fact that the center organizes the stay of the owners and their pets especially in terms of gaining knowledge about the wise raising of a pooch and using this knowledge in practice, during training. Depending on the nursery or center, such a trip may have different course. It is worth reading the programs, familiarizing yourself with the methods of work of individual trainers, find opinions about them and look for a trip that perfectly suits our needs.
