How slow motion videos work
One of the most popular video editing effects is the slow motion mode where you can slow down the video playback speed. It is a technique invented by cinema, discovered in 1904 by August Musger, who at that time was able to change the speed of recordings using rather rudimentary but effective solutions. Each video is made up of a series of frames, called snapshots, that together form a movie to give the impression of motion.
Following the success of GoPro action cameras, modern smartphone and tablet cameras now also allow high frame rates, with a frame rate that is usually constant to simulate a state that is as natural as possible. On the other hand, video editing applications allow you to change the speed, so you can slow down the video by increasing the time between one frame and the next, creating a slow motion effect.
Normal movie speed is 24fps and Android and iOS apps are able to change this value. For example, recordings of up to 30fps cannot be slowed down, recordings of 30-60fps can be slowed down by half, recordings of 80-90fps can be reduced by up to a third, and recordings of 240fps can be slowed down up to 10 times their initial speed without losing quality.

To do this, simply open the camera, select slow motion mode and start recording to extend the video by at least 10 seconds.
In addition, some apps let you edit their videos to insert slow motion only at certain points in the video. You need to open the app, select a movie, mark the start and end points of the cut, activate the slow motion effect and save the updated file. Many applications offer fairly simple and intuitive graphical interfaces, so often all you have to do is move the virtual cursor or selector to decrease or increase the speed at which frames are played.
Obviously, the better the camera quality of your smartphone or iPhone, the better the final result will be, as the higher initial frame rate allows you to slow down the video while maintaining high quality. For this reason, it is important to adapt the intervention to the type of camera installed, otherwise you risk getting unattractive videos with grainy and blurry graphics. The slow motion allows you to create particularly effective videos, but like all effects, do not overuse it, otherwise it can make the recording unpleasant.
