The average price of a BA thesis is about PLN 1.2–1.5 thousand. zloty. Master’s theses are usually an expense of at least 2,000. zloty. In return, however, the writers assure that the work will not be detected by any of the anti-plagiarism systems. “I write the work entirely by myself, I do not copy it from others. That is why I guarantee that anti-plagiarism will not detect anything “- you can read in one of the offers.
Is writing commissioned work legal?
Lawyer Marcin Chałupka, a specialist in higher education, points out that, according to the copyright law, a crime is committed by someone who presents someone else’s work as their own, i.e. a buyer. The person who wrote the work may, however, be responsible for aiding, i.e. facilitating the prohibited act. – If the seller of the study is proven to meet the conditions of subsidy, including the intention, he may be liable – explains Marcin Chałupka.
It is not that simple though, as most writers protect themselves from legal consequences. Out of ten writers we contacted regarding the thesis, eight stated in the first e-mail that it would be “exemplary”, “auxiliary”, “is only a model” or “cannot be used for purposes inconsistent with law ”.

According to Marcin Chałupka, mere attempts to punish people accepting assignments for writing a thesis will not solve the problem of dependent master’s theses.
– I do not want to defend breaking the law, but in my opinion, the key to fighting plagiarism at universities is to eliminate the causes, i.e. to change the motivation of graduates. As long as they perceive the obligation to write papers as a complement to the fiction of “scientific” promotion based on the creation of “waste paper”, not useful either professionally or in life, there will be demand, and therefore supply – says Marcin Chałupka.
