With the advent of e-invoicing, we should all have a tool to receive tax documents. Here are the options available for you

The introduction of electronic invoicing on January 1, 2019 will radically change our habits. Paper invoices, seals and stamps are a thing of the past, and when it’s time to ask a professional (plumber, electrician, dentist or even accountant) for an invoice, we must be equipped with the appropriate collection tool.

Electronic invoices are not sent directly from the issuer to the “rightful” recipient, but pass through the servers of Sistema di Interscambio, an infrastructure set up by the IRS to validate invoices and forward them to the person or company that was supposed to receive them.

How to receive electronic invoices

One of the biggest doubts that plagues both 5 million VAT number holders and “ordinary” citizens is how to send and receive electronic invoices. In fact, it doesn’t take much to issue an e-invoice: if you belong to one of the categories targeted by the measure (currently only holders of a VAT number under the minimum or flat-rate system are exempt from the requirement to issue e-invoices), you will be able to send and receive e-invoices. – invoices. If you belong to one of the categories affected by this measure (currently only those who have a VAT number in the minimum or flat-rate system are exempt from this obligation), you can decide to act autonomously, respecting the technical parameters established by the Office Treasury; or you can rely on Libero SiFattura, Italiaonline’s administrative management platform to make it easy to send, receive and store electronic invoices. Based on this management software, the issuing and receipt of electronic invoices is dependent on the use of the SDI receiver code. Let’s see what this is all about.

What is it and how to get SDI Receiver Code

The SDI Recipient Code is a seven-digit string of characters that is uniquely associated with a VAT number (and therefore also known as a unique code) of a freelancer or company. It is generated directly by Inland Revenue or may be requested by an intermediary. With Libero SiFattura you can, for example, automatically obtain a unique SDI code, thanks to which you will be able to receive invoices from your suppliers directly within the Italiaonline administrative management platform.

The unique SDI code, however, can only be issued to specialists and companies with a tax identification number (NIP), and not to all those who need to receive tax documents to be used, for example, when filing a tax return.

What to do if you do not have an SDI Receiver Code

In such cases, the unique code may be replaced with a Certified Electronic Mail Address. SDI, in fact, also provides a field for the PecDestinatario Recipient: in order to send an electronic invoice to the user, it is therefore sufficient to know his PEC address and enter it in the form to be sent to the Information Exchange System.

For this reason, opening an email address can now be more convenient than ever, especially for private individuals. In addition to low management costs (Libero Family Pec only costs € 14.99 and allows you to send and receive a large number of certified e-mail messages), PEC will allow you to receive dentist and mechanic invoices, send cancellation letters for services and subscriptions (such as Pay TV or telephone subscription), communication with public administration and many others.
