How To Fix The D3dx9_36.dll

Errors

Under no circumstances should the d3dx9_36.dll dll file be downloaded individually from any “DLL download site”. There are many different reasons why downloading DLLs from these sites is never a good idea.

If you have already downloaded d3dx9_36.dll from one of these DLL download sites, remove it from anywhere and follow these steps.

  1. Restart your computer if you haven’t already done so.

The d3dx9_36.dll error can be either a bug or a one-time problem and a simple restart can completely remove it.

  2. Install the latest version of Microsoft DirectX. Upgrading to the latest version of DirectX is likely to fix the d3dx9_36.dll not found error.

Microsoft releases DirectX updates frequently without updating the version number or letter, so be sure to install the latest version even if the version is technically the same.

The same DirectX installer works with all versions of Windows, including Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP. It will replace the missing DirectX 11, DirectX 10 or DirectX 9 file.

  3. Assuming the latest version of Microsoft’s DirectX does not fix the d3dx9_36.dll error you are getting, look for the DirectX installer on the game or application CD or DVD. Usually, if a game or other program uses DirectX, the developers will include a copy of DirectX on the installation disc.

    • Sometimes, but not often, the version of DirectX included on the disk matches the program better than the latest version available online.

  4. Uninstall the game or software, then reinstall it. Something could have happened to the files in the program that work with d3dx9_36.dll and reinstalling might do the trick.

  5. Restore d3dx9_36.dll from the latest DirectX package. If the above troubleshooting steps did not resolve the d3dx9_36.dll error, try extracting the d3dx9_36.dll file individually from the DirectX package.

  6. Update your graphics drivers. While not the most common solution, updating your computer’s graphics drivers can fix this DirectX problem in some situations.
