The dark theme ends the tour of Google apps and services: it has come to the most popular search engine, here’s how it works and how to activate it

In recent years, the dark theme has aroused a lot of interest in the world of technology. It appeared on Android and the iPhone iOS operating system, on Windows 10, macOS and iPadOS, i.e. in short, it appeared on all or almost all of the most popular operating systems, and then in applications such as WhatsApp, Facebook or Instagram, and finally on websites. / p>

The reason why it is so much appreciated by simple users and enthusiasts is simple and related to visual comfort. When there is little light, or simply when you are tired after a working day, perhaps in front of a screen, dark tones are less tiring for your eyes as it improves the visibility of text and information on the screen in general. In addition, when used correctly, dark mode saves battery power on smartphones. Google, after introducing the dark theme in all its applications, is now, after a long wait, bringing it to Google Search for Windows 10, Chrome OS, and macOS.

Dark theme arrives at Google Search

The distribution of the dark theme in Google Search has already officially started, but as is often the case with the innovations of the company from Mountain View (and not only), it is not immediately available to every user.

Some of those who have already received the dark theme for Google search report that they noticed a notification on the search page informing them of the possibility of using the new feature: “Dark theme is now available. Please activate it for a better search experience” – we read.

Google Dark Theme, how to activate it

The message contains a button to activate it, or you can do it yourself. In this case, here’s how to activate the dark theme: just open the Google search engine, click on Settings> Search Settings and then, in the left column, on Appearance. There will be three options: Default, which matches the dominant color of Google’s search to the color of your device, Theme Dark, which displays light characters on a dark background, and Theme Light, which intuitively provides the opposite. Once selected, click the Save button at the bottom to confirm changes.

Google search engine dark theme applies to the Google homepage, search results page, search settings, and many other sections of the world’s most popular service. When we activate it for the first time, the warning “You are using a dark theme now. You can return to the light theme at any time from the Google search settings” appears and offers us the possibility to return to the light theme at the touch of a button.

According to Google’s search manager, the dark theme should arrive for everyone by the end of this week. Those who have so far compensated for the lack of an official dark theme for Google search by activating the “forced” dark mode in some web browsers such as Google Chrome will be able to put it aside for a new official solution, and to have a dark theme on all websites, it will be necessary to continue to use free extensions such as Dark Reader.
