Passage of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 by Chinese Certification Bodies has revealed some features and pricing details arrive

There is no Galaxy Note this year. Samsung has decided to devote its efforts, energy and resources to its foldable smartphone range and in the coming weeks the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 will arrive, but in order not to leave Note enthusiasts lurching, the company has decided to give third-generation Fold support for the Note’s S Pen.

In the past few hours, Samsung’s own Galaxy Z Fold 3 has been certified by TENAA and MIIT, Chinese certification bodies that, as is usually the case, have registered and made public some of the specifications of the foldable top of the range. Intertwining this information with others that have emerged in recent days, we can sketch the first image of the semi-official specification of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, a product that is not far away. It will be unveiled alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 3 next month at the Galaxy Unpacked event, which Samsung has used so far to showcase the Galaxy Note range and a few other gadgets, but no new Galaxy Note will be released this year.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 specification

Like previous generations, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 will have two displays, one external, visible when the phone is closed, the other larger when the smartphone is open “when folded”. Certification bodies gave a few numbers: the smaller, external screen will have a diagonal of 6.2 inches, while the larger, ideal for multimedia content or working with the phone as a tablet, is 7.5 inches.

Other information filtered by certification bodies concerns the system, which in the Chinese variant will be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888, octa-core 2.84 GHz, and a battery with a capacity of 4500 mAh, so with the same capacity as the one currently in the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The Chinese variant is not supposed to be significantly different from the one sold elsewhere, so people who want a larger battery size and therefore better battery life may be seriously disappointed.

Relatively popular prices for Galaxy Z Fold 3

Another very expensive aspect (in every sense) for enthusiasts is the price that is inevitably high for something like a foldable smartphone, which, while not the last innovation, is still state-of-the-art in terms of sales figures. Folded smartphones were, and will probably remain for some time, niche products, requiring massive engineering, special materials and tedious manufacturing processes.

However, while remaining very expensive products in absolute terms, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 may even be cheaper than their predecessors. Samsung has reportedly gone to great lengths over the past few months to bring down the retail price of its foldables for a long time, and there have never been any rumors to deny it. According to the latest information, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is to be priced between $ 1,655 and $ 1,741, and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 between $ 1,045 and $ 1,110, while its predecessors were priced at $ 1,999 and $ 1,380 respectively. With a lower price, Samsung can entice more enthusiasts to buy folding, and by increasing sales volumes, economies of scale will increase, starting a cycle that will lead to the next folding costing less and less.
